ABOUT CMSP
CMSP 327 is under the jurisdiction of Community School District Nine. The school has an enrollment of approximately 536 students in grades 6-11. CMSP 327 was established in 2004. It was founded to prepare students to enter the high school utilizing the complete CMSP model.
The language arts curriculum, which includes the Balanced Literacy program, promotes the theme of language and literacy through reading and writing. Through an integrated curriculum rooted in literature, students develop the ability to become creative learners and critical thinkers. By connecting literature with the arts, especially drama, students learn the skills of reading and writing and use them to develop the life-long process of communication.
The science curriculum promotes science inquiry where students can initiate short meaningful projects or long-term inquiry of the world around them. The science program is integrated with our literacy program in which students develop literacy through a holistic approach. The link with hands on science inquiry, cooperative learning groups and technology will help to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.
The CMSP’s math program prepares students in a very structured manner. The program is organized to provide the necessary instructional support so that every student can master material and topics on a daily and weekly basis. Students who work below an 80% are given more time through tutoring, after school and Saturdays, to achieve at required levels. Impact Math, which is integrated into the CMSP program, is committed to providing a child-centered reading, writing and mathematics program that supports problem solving and critical thinking skills. Teachers provide mathematical instruction that utilizes hands-on instructional strategies and activities that promote thinking and reasoning. Students enjoy mathematics as they build confidence and develop a better understanding of mathematical concepts.
